The infertility issue is challenging for many couples, with recurrent visits from one fertility clinic to another in search of a solution. There are many ways to deal with infertility, and some have impressive success rates. However, if you are in such a situation, we advise you to try Intro Vitro Fertilization (IVF) treatment.
SFS is the go-to if you are looking for a fertility clinic in New York. We take pride in being leaders in this emerging reproductive technology. Here is the journey to achieving your dreams as a woman.
Ovulation Induction
The process involves stimulating ovaries to create multiple eggs instead of the single eggs they usually produce monthly. Having multiple eggs is essential for the success of the process since several eggs fail to develop normally or fertilize after the fertilization process.
Ovarian stimulation takes one to two weeks before you are ready for egg retrieval. Afterward, you may have a vaginal ultrasound or blood test to ascertain that you are prepared. We can achieve ovulation induction through different medications, including;
Medications for Ovarian Stimulation.
We use synthetic hormones to stimulate our clients’ ovaries with the help of an injectable medication whose contents include a luteinizing hormone, a follicle-stimulating hormone, or both. The hormones are responsible for stimulating the development of more than one egg at a time.
Medication for Oocyte Maturation
Our patient can take human chorionic gonadotrophin (HCG) to aid in the maturation of the eggs that have undergone the egg retrieval process.
Medication to Prevent Premature Ovulation
We may administer medications that inhibit the process where the body releases the developing eggs too soon.
Medication to Prepare the Lining of the Uterus.
Our doctors may recommend using progesterone supplements that will cause your uterus lining to be more receptive and allow implantation. They suggest this method during your egg retrieval or embryo transfer.
Egg Retrieval
The second step of the cycle is egg retrieval which you can do 34 to 36 after taking the final injection and before the ovulation begins. You will go through sedation during this process and also take pain medication.
The retrieval method is the transvaginal ultrasound aspiration, where we insert ultrasound scrutiny into your vagina, which will help us identify the follicles. We then insert a thin needle into an ultrasound guide which goes via the vagina to your follicles to retrieve eggs.
We then remove the eggs from the follicles with the help of a needle connected through the suction device. We identify the mature eggs and place them in a nutrient-filled medium for incubation. You need to note that in the process, some eggs go unfertilized.
Sperm Retrieval
We will need to have a sperm sample in the doctor’s clinic the morning of your egg retrieval, so if you use your partner’s sperm, collection can be through masturbation, testicular aspiration, or extracting sperm directly from the testicles through a surgical procedure or a needle.
You may also opt to use donor sperm. After retrieving the sperm, we separate the sperm from the semen fluid in the lab to continue with the procedure.
Fertilization
We can attempt fertilization through two methods:
- Conventional Insemination: We add healthy sperm to your mature eggs and incubate them through the night.
- Intracytoplasmic Injection of sperms (ICSI): We inject a single sperm directly into every mature egg. We use this option when there is an issue with semen quality or number.
Embryo Transfer
Between two and five days after egg retrieval, we embark on the embryo transfer procedure, which takes place in our doctors’ clinics. The doctor may give you a modest sedative while carrying out the process. Though it is normally painless, sometimes it causes minor cramping.
Embryo transfer involves inserting a thin, long, flexible tube (catheter) into your vagina, which goes to your uterus through the cervix. The doctor attaches a syringe that contains one or more embryos ejected in a fluid to the tip of the catheter, which helps them to place the embryo into the uterus.
If the procedure is successful, an embryo implants into your uterus lining within six to ten days after egg retrieval.
After The Procedure
We advise our patients to resume their daily activities. However, since they may still have enlarged ovaries, we recommend they take light duties as vigorous activities may cause discomfort. You may have side effects like
- Mild bloating
- Mild cramping
- Constipation
- Passing clear or bloody fluid in small amounts shortly after going through the procedure
- Breast tenderness because of high levels of estrogen
Pain should be mild, as indicated above. However, suppose you experience moderate to severe pain. In that case, we advise you to see a doctor to see if you have complications like an infection, ovarian torsion, or severe ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome.
