    Holle bio formula is undoubtedly one of the best European formulas on the market. The company has been in the business for over 50 years and not once failed to provide parents with top-quality baby food.

    In addition to that, it’s one of the first certified Demeter companies. Holle is making incredible organic formulas while truly caring about the carbon footprint. Yet, is Holle bio formula the best choice for your baby? Let’s find out.

    Holle Bio Formula’s Evaluation By Ingredients

    Proteins

    Proteins in cow milk are slightly different than in breast milk. Generally, they are harder to digest: while cow milk contains about 80% casein and 20% whey, breast milk has 40% casein and 60% whey.

    So, when it comes to proteins in baby formula, Holle always adjusts the percentage. During light processing, they are either removed fully or broken down. In the end, Holle bio formula’s nutritional composition becomes very similar to breast milk.

    There’s even an option for more sensitive tummies! Goat milk is easier on infants’ stomachs than cow milk due to a different protein structure. Holle organic goat milk formula is an amazing alternative that contains about 89% less casein.

    Carbohydrates

    Both breast milk and baby formula contain carbohydrates. In fact, it’s the main supply of energy in any baby food. These can be:

    • lactose;
    • starch;
    • maltodextrin;
    • corn syrup;
    • sucrose.

    In Europe, you can’t add sucrose to baby formula according to the law. Corn syrup, too, is not the healthiest option and should possibly be avoided by parents. You can find lactose in all PRE stage baby formulas since lactose is either derived from cow or goat milk. It’s also the easiest to digest among carbohydrates.

    When changing to the higher stage, plant-based carbohydrates join the ingredient list. Holle mostly contains lactose or organic maltodextrin as the thickener and a source of energy for your baby. Stages 2-4 contain starch, which is also perfect to keep your baby full longer.

    DHA

    Docosahexaenoic Acid (DHA) is very important for physical and mental development in babies. It’s a natural ingredient in breast milk. Yet, this Omega-3 fatty acid can also be found in nature.

    Produced by microalgae, DHA is an essential part of human diet – fish and fish oil are the biggest carriers. Of course, Holle also had DHA on the ingredient list. Holle manufacturers use a mix of vegetable and fish oil to nourish babies across the world with omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids.

    Pro- and Prebiotics

    Many other baby formula brands are adding probiotics and prebiotics to their ingredient list. But Holle always keeps the list fairly short. There are no probiotics or prebiotics in Holle, keeping parents’ attention on more important ingredients.

    Moreover, you can always buy them and add them as a supplement to your baby’s daily diet.

    Oils

    In addition to DHA, baby formula by Holle contains palm oil to be as close to the human breast milk fatty acid profile. To be more precise, organic palm oil is mixed with other vegetable oils to act as a palmitic acid substitute. Since it’s mixed in, the amount of palm oil in the end result is rather low.

    In the Holle Goat milk formula, however, there’s no palm oil. A mixture of sunflower and rapeseed oil is added instead.

    Conclusion

    Finding a perfect baby formula match for your infant can be a challenge. It’s easy to get overwhelmed and feel lost after studying formulas’ ingredient lists. Overall, Holle formula is one of the oldest and best-quality on the market. Holle is an experienced manufacturer that follows all European laws and provides babies with outstanding bio baby formulas.
