Gender-based violence (GBV) is a worldwide issue that affects people of all ages and genders. GBV encompasses a wide range of physical, psychological, sexual, and economic abuse, including rape, sexual assault, domestic violence, and other forms of discrimination. In recent years, the prevalence of GBV has increased substantially, with 2019-2021 being no exception. In this article, we will take a look at the recent examples of gender-based violence and the impact they have had.

    Recent Examples of Gender-Based Violence

One of the most prominent examples of gender-based violence in 2019-2021 is the rise in femicide in Mexico. In 2020, the Mexican government reported that femicides had risen by 11.2%, with the majority of victims being between the ages of 15 and 29. This increase in gender-based violence has been attributed to a number of factors, including a lack of adequate legislation and the prevalence of gender-based stereotypes.

Another example of gender-based violence in 2019-2021 is the rise in domestic violence in India. According to the National Crime Records Bureau, the number of reported cases of domestic violence increased by 8.3% in 2020 compared to 2019. This increase is thought to be due to a number of factors, including poverty, lack of education, and the prevalence of patriarchal norms in Indian society.

    Impact of 2019-2021 Gender-Based Violence

The impact of gender-based violence in 2019-2021 has been far-reaching and devastating. Victims of GBV often experience physical and psychological trauma, as well as economic hardship and social isolation. In addition, GBV can have a lasting impact on a victim’s mental health, leading to depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder.

The prevalence of gender-based violence in 2019-2021 has also had a significant economic impact. According to the World Bank, GBV costs the global economy an estimated $1.5 trillion each year. This cost includes direct expenses, such as medical and legal costs, as well as indirect expenses, such as lost productivity and decreased consumer spending.

Gender-based violence has had a significant impact on individuals, families, and communities in 2019-2021. It is essential that we take action to address this issue and ensure that all individuals are able to live free from violence and discrimination. We must also work to create a culture of respect and equality, and to combat the root causes of GBV. Only then can we

Gender-based violence (GBV) is a pervasive issue that disproportionately impacts women and girls around the world. Despite international laws, initiatives, and growing awareness, gender-based violence is still tragically widespread, with many cases increasingly occurring in recent years.

In 2020, a brave woman in India, Nikita Tomar, suffered an unthinkable injustice. In broad daylight, with many witnesses in attendance, Nikita was approached by two men who demanded she convert to their faith. When she refused, one of them shot her in the head, killing her instantly.

A similar case occurred in 2021 in Egypt, where an adolescent girl was kidnapped and kept as a sexual captive for nearly two years. During her captivity, she was subjected to countless physical and psychological abuse, as well as forced to convert to another religion. The girl was finally able to escape her captors, but the deep trauma of the experience will remain with her for life.

Both of these cases represent only a fraction of the gender-based violence occurring around the world, encompassing a variety of forms such as child marriage, female genital mutilation, honor crimes, and acid attacks. It is a scourge of global proportions, with an estimated one in three women around the world being subjected to some form of physical or sexual violence.

In order to address this issue effectively, further efforts need to be made in regards to prevention, protection, and prosecution. Where laws exist, they must be properly enforced and monitored. Cultural shifts cultivating greater respect for women need to occur. Resources and support services must be available to survivors.

Gender-based violence is an issue that cannot go ignored. It requires immediate attention, resources, and awareness. With collective efforts and a commitment to upholding human rights and dignity, the cycle of gender-based violence can be stopped.
